Who was Tommy Clucas?

Tom was a 'son of Peel' and on 1st of September 2004,he wrote himself into the motocycling history books of the Isle of Man. Whilst chasing his ambition to win the Manx Grand Prix motocycle race staged on the world famous TT Mountain Circuit , he became the first rider to break the 120m.p.h. average speed for a lap on the daring 37.73 mile circuit . Having broke the lap record and whilst leading the race, on the last lap, he was tragically killed when his engine seized causing him to crash heavily thus depriving him of the race win he sought after so much.

Prior to his racing career Tom dedicated over 20 years of his life to his former Mistress 'Football'. He played and excelled at club level for Peel AFC and also for several years at International level for the I.O.M. National Team. His International career was cut short by a devastating cruciate ligament injury and was told he would never play again at any level. Advice which Tom ignored, with determination and months of post operative recovery/rehabilitaion Tom once again pulled on the Red and White shirt of Peel's first eleven and added numerous more trophies to his already 'groaning' mantle piece.

The public roads were closed, all Manx Flags en-route were flying at half mast as Tom completed his final lap 'under escort' he was flagged accross the finish line to complete his race.......... He was thought of that highly

All About the Charity...

The charities object, as written in the constitution, is:

The Charity will exist for the purpose of the promotion of local community
participation in healthy recreation by the provision of facilities for
playing and training for predominantly football, but also a variety of
other sports such as rugby, hockey, cricket and athletics.

Our Aims

We are attempting to raise monies to build a 'Community Sports Facility' in our home town of Peel and name it after Tom. We feel the size of this tribute is the only way we could thank him and pay our respects to such a great character and friend. He loved sports and this would support local sports & children in the future -something he would have been proud of. The sports facility would prove a beneficial complex for young children & sports people alike.

Having identified the land to start this project we are showing our intent, although this is only one small step to what may prove to be a long road to completion. With determination and a lot of support one day we hope that the community, and those that follow, may all enjoy the use of the Tommy Clucas Memorial Sports Facility.
